How to Use Speed Type & Understand Your WPM
Master the timed typing test, interpret Net vs. Raw speed calculations, and practice with purpose.
🎯 How to Run the Test
Click or tap anywhere on the typing arena to focus the cursor. On mobile, this summons your native virtual keyboard without zooming. Choose your test duration (15s, 30s, 60s, or 120s), type each target word, and press Space to submit and advance to the next word. Press Tab + Enter at any time to instantly restart.
📊 The Net WPM Formula
In accordance with international typing standards, one word is standardized as exactly 5 keystrokes. Raw WPM counts every keystroke entered. Net WPM only counts correct keystrokes: (Correct Characters / 5) / Elapsed Minutes. Uncorrected errors or mistyped words do not count toward your Net WPM score.
⏱ Test Durations Explained
15s: Warm-up burst test to measure maximum reflex speed.
30s: Short sprint assessing keystroke cadence and rhythm.
60s: The global standard benchmark used in educational and career assessments.
120s: Endurance test measuring focus, stamina, and fatigue resistance.
🏆 Verified Speed Tiers
Beginner (< 40 WPM): Focus on touch-typing fundamentals and finger placement.
Intermediate (40–64 WPM): Proficient everyday typing speed.
Advanced Pro (65–89 WPM): High-efficiency typing suited for programming and writing.
Esports Master (90+ WPM): Elite competitive typing cadence.
Training Tip: Speed is a byproduct of precision. Slow down slightly until you maintain 98%+ accuracy; steady rhythmic cadence prevents backspace stumbles and allows speed to develop naturally.
